Ashley's one of our youngest YQR Local Leaders, however we consider her "musically mature." She tells us how her love of music began and why the she chose the 80s!
"My favourite part of planning my class is definitely making the playlist. Growing up in dance, piano, and musical theatre, my life was always very music focused. On top of all of that, my parents did an amazing job of exposing me to music from a wide variety of genres and decades. I honestly don’t think I could choose a favourite genre of music because I strongly believe that there is something special about all of them (except screamo –I’m still unsure about that one).
Coworkers at my full-time job are constantly telling me that I was born in the wrong decade because you can usually find me jamming out to 70s, 80s, or 90s classics at my desk. At home, I also enjoy listening to anything from top 40 hits, angsty rock, alternative pop, folk, or even some country.
I like to plan my class playlists to reflect the music I actually listen to on a daily basis. Because of that, you’ll see a large number of dance music and remixes, the occasional alternative rock jam, and of course a throwback or ten.
I have to be honest and say that literally NOTHING makes me happier than a solid 80’s bop, and as difficult it was to actually narrow down this playlist, I am SO EXCITED to be teaching this theme (and I hope you enjoy it too)."
Don't miss Ashley's theme class, All out 80's, today at 4:00pm!
